WHAT WE DO…
Scope of tests
We have a scope of services, whose capacity does not exceed 450 L and/or 400 kg net mass. For container models that successfully pass the tests indicated in section 5.5.2 (6.1.5.2) of NOM-007-SCT-2-2022, the report is issued with the UN code, which must be stamped by the container manufacturer in accordance with section 5.3 (6.1.3) of NOM-007-SCT-2-2022.
Fall
This test applies to all packagings intended to contain hazardous substances, materials and wastes, with a capacity up to 450 L or with a net mass up to 400 kilograms in accordance with point 5.5.3 (6.1.5.3) of NOM-007-SCT-2-2022.
Objective of the test: To evaluate the resistance of the packaging to impacts that may occur during handling or transport.
Criteria for passing the test: None of the tested packages/packaging should show any leakage of contents.
For the outer packagings of the combined packagings, there must also be no deterioration that could affect safety during transport, the inner packagings or objects must remain completely inside the outer packaging, and there must be no leakage of the contents of the substance contained in the inner packagings.
Watertightness
The test must be performed on all models of packagings/containers intended to contain liquids; however, inner packagings/containers of combined packagings/containers need not be subjected to this test, as indicated in point 5.5.4 (6.1.5.4) of NOM-007-SCT-2-2022.
Objective of the test: To evaluate each part that makes up the packaging and
airtight (crimps, seams, plugs, etc.).
Criteria for passing the test: No packaging should leak.
Internal Pressure (Hydraulic)
This test must be performed on all metal or plastic containers and all composite packagings intended for transporting liquids; this test is not required for inner packagings of combination packagings, as indicated in point 5.5.5 (6.1.5.5) of NOM-007- SCT-2-2022.
Objective of the test: To evaluate the resistance of the packaging to the vapor pressure that could be generated by the product to be contained due to changes in temperature and atmospheric pressure when transported or stored.
Criteria for passing the test: No packaging must show any leakage of contents.
Stacking
The test applies to all packagings intended to contain hazardous substances, materials and wastes, except for sacks, in accordance with point 5.5.6 (6.1.5.6) of NOM-007-SCT-2-2022.
Objective of the test: To evaluate the resistance of the packaging to being stowed during transport or storage.
Criteria for passing the test: No packaging must show any leakage of contents, no sample must show any deterioration that could compromise safety during transport.
Vibration
This test applies to all packagings intended to contain hazardous substances, materials and wastes, with a capacity up to 450 L or a net mass up to 400 kilograms in accordance with point 5.5.7 (178.608 CFR) of NOM-007-SCT-2-2022.
Objective of the test: To evaluate the resistance of the packaging when transported by road.
Criteria for passing the test: None of the packages must show any rupture or leakage of contents, any deterioration or deformation that may affect the strength of the package making it unsafe for transport.
Water absorption (COBB method) to corrugated cardboard
All boxes made of single, double, or triple corrugated flute corrugated cardboard intended to contain hazardous products, boxes with a net mass up to 400 kg, in accordance with ISO 535:2014 (E) and point 5.4.11.1 (6.1.4.12.1) of NOM-007-SCT-2- 2022 must be subjected to this test.
Objective of the test:: To determine the resistance to water absorption that the cardboard boxes have in the external letter, to avoid risks in the transportation of the model.
Criteria for passing the test: The water absorption on the external face determined for a test time of 30 min, must be less than 155 g/m2.

Why is it important to perform the tests at
packaging that will contain hazardous substances, materials and wastes?
- If a certain packaging model has passed the tests of NOM-007-SCT-2-2022, it is a guarantee that the model is suitable to contain a certain hazardous material or substance.
- For compliance with national and international regulatory guidelines on packaging intended to contain hazardous substances, materials and wastes.
- Use appropriate packaging for hazardous materials, which allows to protect the health of the population, damage the infrastructure of the companies and protect the environment.

SAMPLE TYPE
Steel drums, aluminum drums, drums made of metals other than steel or aluminum, plywood, cardboard or plastic drums
Steel, aluminum or plastic jerricans.
Composite packaging.
Boxes made of natural wood, plywood, chipboard, cardboard, plastic, steel or aluminum.
Paper or plastic sacks.
Reconditioned or remanufactured packaging.
WHAT DO WE REQUIRE?
Provide the laboratory with information describing the packaging system, using the laboratory description form, according to the type of packaging.
Provide technical drawings of the packaging system.
To provide a letter (on letterhead), where they are requesting the certification service UN
To provide the required samples for the execution of the tests.
DELIVERY TIME
For models constructed of plastic for liquid material container, the time is 65 working days after receipt of the sample in the laboratory and the technical information.
For models constructed of materials other than plastic, including plastic containers to hold solids, the time 45 working days after receipt of the samples in the laboratory and technical information.

Frequently Asked Questions
What type of packaging can we test?
To packagings containing hazardous substances, materials and wastes, the capacity of which does not exceed 450 L and/or 400 kg net mass.
What type of packaging can we not test?
We cannot test packagings intended to contain Class 7 radioactive hazardous materials or wastes, pressure vessels and packagings whose capacity exceeds 450 L and/or 400 kg net mass.
What are the regulations that I should know as a packaging manufacturer for the execution of the tests?
Within the sphere of responsibilities, it is the obligation of manufacturers of packaging/packaging intended to contain hazardous substances, materials and waste to be familiar with the NOM-007-SCT-2-2022 standard or the one that replaces it. The standards can be consulted in the Standards Catalog of the Directorate General of Standards (DGN).
